Overlooking the marshes of Battery Creek, the site provided stunning views along with a large number of mature live oaks and pines. Working with the engineers, EP/A was able to save 95% of these large caliper trees through thoughtful grading and alignment of the roadways. The community is based on Traditional Neighborhood Design principles, with most homes being serviced by alleys. The streetscape was enhanced by forcing the porches of the homes up close to the street and sidewalks for community interaction. This concept has been successfully in existence for over a hundred years in cities like Beaufort, Savannah, and Charleston.
