Battery Creek forms part of the headwaters to the Beaufort River as it flows past historic Port Royal and the northern tip of Paris Island where it enters the Beaufort River.

Overlooking the marshes of Battery Creek, the site provided stunning views along with a large number of mature live oaks and pines.  Working with the engineers, EP/A was able to save 95% of these large caliper trees through thoughtful grading and alignment of the roadways.  The community is based on traditional neighborhood design principles, with most homes being serviced by alleys.  The streetscape was enhanced by forcing the porches of the homes up close to the streets and sidewalks for community interaction. This efficient neighborhood planning concept has been successful for over two hundred years in cities like Beaufort, Savannah, and Charleston.  The architecture of the Overlook also takes advantage of this street and alley layout to form a very efficient, neighborly lifestyle.
