Crawford Square
Savannah, Georgia
Complete restoration and renovation by EP/A included the addition of gazebos, picnic shelters, benches, lighting, a children’s recreational playground and equipment, as well as a graphics and signage system. Crawford Square is one of the 26 original squares in Savannah’s Historic District. The square incorporates historic charm and provides residents and visitors a year-round opportunity to participate in the dozens of unique and special community parks, as originally established by General Oglethorpe. This project involved extensive public meetings and consensus building sessions in order to receive public approval for establishment of a park. It was federally funded by an Urban Development Area Grant. The local citizenry were provided a public forum whereby their opinions, needs, wants, and desires could be expressed. Thus, they could ultimately be considered as contributors to the design process.
